Jaisalmer, una pequeña ciudad del Rajasthan, en india, posee un encanto de leyendas y libros de cuentos. Emplazada en pleno desierto, sus construciones tienen el color y textura del mismo. Conocida como "La ciudad dorada" debido a su color, está coronada por un fuerte que se puede ver desde todos los puntos de la ciudad.
Jaisalmer, a small town in Rajasthan, India, has the charm of storybook legends and tales. Located in the desert, its constructions have the same colour and texture. Known as "The Golden City" because of its colour, is crowned by a fort which can be seen from all points of the city.
Conviene quedarse en un hotel con restaurante en la terraza, algo bastante común en la zona y que no es para nada caro, para poder apreciar mejor la fortaleza y la ciudad.
El desierto que la rodea es una oportunidad para hacer un safari de camellos (ver mi experiencia haciendo click aquí) y conocer uno de los increíbles desiertos del mundo, el desierto de THAR, donde se pueden visitar algunas ruinas y templos muy interesantes. Por lo general el safari incluye la visita a estos lugares en camioneta.

Un lugar que suele estar incluido en el safari, o si no se puede ir en rickshaw, es el Lago Gadsisar, alimentado por agua de lluvia en pleno desierto y rodeado de una arcada palaciega y pequeños templos. Además de estas construcciones maravillosas que rodean el lago me llamó mucho la antención una actividad que parece encantar a las familias hindúes de vacaciones: alimentar a los peces. Estos peces son increíblemente glotones (¿o hambrientos?) y hasta se salen del agua para recibir lo que la gente les ofrece. Es un espectáculo que impresiona la primera vez que lo ves.
A place that is usually included in the safari, otherwise you can go by rickshaw, is Gadsisar Lake, fed by rainwater in the desert and surrounded by small temples and palatial arcades. Besides these wonderful buildings surrounding the lake caught my attention an activity that seems to love Hindu families in Holidays: to feed the fish. These fish are incredibly greedy (or hungry?) And even leave the water trying to get what people is giving them. It's an impressive show the first time you see it.

Dentro del fuerte hay un palacio y varios templos ricamente decorados.
The best is to stay in a hotel with rooftop restaurant, which is quite common in the
area and it is not at all expensive, to fully appreciate the fort
and the city.
Inside the fort there is a palace and several temples richly decorated.

Very good and impressive explanation of the desert city Jaisalmer. I too visited the city and the sand dunes . To see the sunset on the dunes creates beautiful scene.
