ABU SIMBEL
El pueblo de Abu Simbel se encuentra a 280 kilómetros hacia el sur desde Asuán (ver aquí) y (aquí)
Ubicado a solamente 40 km de la frontera con Sudán este tranquilo pueblo no recibe casi visitas de los turistas ya que la mayoría se va directamente a los impresionantes templos, ubicado uno al lado del otro, que lo hace famoso:

Located just 40 km from the border with Sudan this quiet village almost doesn´t receives visits by tourists as most goes straight to the impressive temples, located one next to the other, which makes Abu Simbel famous:

Desde Asuán se puede llegar en avión en una visita de unas pocas horas, con el tiempo suficiente para recorrerlos. Minibuses esperan en el aeropuerto (incluidos en el precio del ticket aereo), no es necesario ni decirles a donde nos dirigimos :) Esta opción no está nada mal y no es cara, en Asuán se puede comprar los pasajes en la oficina de EgyptAir (lo más recomendable)
Otra opción es contratar un tour en un todo-terreno que te hace un recorrido por la zona, visitando más lugares hasta llegar a Abu Simbel. Esto lleva unos 3 ó 4 días y es bastante caro, además de que te debe acompañar la policía (saber más aquí) , lo que termina siendo un lujoso convoy militar :) Recuerdo que el encargado del hotel donde nos hospedábamos en Asuán quedó bastante molesto porque no aceptamos contratar su "tour militar", algo común en Egipto: los hoteles para extranjeros tienen servicios de tours y taxis y ponen caras largas si no los contratas...
From Aswan you can arrive by plane on a visit of a few hours, with enough time to visit them. Minibuses are waiting at the airport (included in the price of air ticket), it is not necessary tell them where we are going :) This option is not bad and is not expensive either. We can buy tickets in Aswan on EgyptAir office ( most recommended)
Another option is to rent a tour in an all-terrain vehicle which makes you a tour of the area, visiting more places till getting Abu Simbel. This takes about 3 or 4 days and is quite expensive, plus you must be accompany with the police (learn more here) , which ends up being a luxurious military convoy :) I remember that the staff of the hotel we were spending night in Aswan was quite annoying because we do not accept contract their "military tour", something is common in Egypt: hotels have services for foreign tours and taxis and they put bad faces if we don´t contracts them ...
En mi opinión es una visita imperdible. El Templo de Ramsés II está alineado de forma tal que cada año, el 22 de febrero y 22 de octubre respectivamente (información de la guía en inglés Lonely Planet), el primer rayo de sol proveniente del Nilo penetra en el templo pasando por la gran sala de columnas y el vestíbulo hasta llegar al santuario donde se encuentran las esculturas de Ra, Ramsés y Amón, iluminándolas, quedando sólo la cara del dios Ptah en penumbra, pues era considerado el dios de la oscuridad (¡que genios!)
In my opinion it is a must visit. The Temple of Ramses II is aligned in such a way that every year, on February 22 and 22 October respectively (this information is from the Lonely Planet guide in English), the first rays of the rising sun reach across the Nile enters the temple through the great pillared hall, through the vestibule and into the sanctuary, where they illuminate the sculptures of Ra, Rames II and Amun, leaving only the face of the god Ptah in darkness, as it was considered the god of darkness (geniuses!)

Asuán, el sur de Egipto//Aswan, the south Egypt
Asuán marca la antigua frontera sur del territorio de los emperadores. Ubicada en la primera catarata del río Nilo ha tenido siempre un papel estratégico muy importante para el comercio.
Aswan marks the southern territory of ancient emperors border. Located at the first cataract of the Nile River has always played an important strategic role for trade.
Las canteras de piedra del Antiguo Egipto se encontraban aquí. Estas piedras eran usadas para crear las estatuas colosales, los obeliscos y los templos que están en todas partes de Egipto, incluyendo las pirámides que luego eran trasladadas por el Nilo; además aún se pueden observar en la piedra natural, los restos de los picapedreros que trabajaron en la zona hace 3000 años.
The stone quarries of ancient Egypt were here. These stones were used to create the colossal statues, obelisks and temples we can find everywhere in Egypt, including the pyramids. They were carried by the Nile. We can still see the remains of the stonemasons who worked in the area 3000 years ago.

El Museo Nubio (Nubia Museum) es muy interesante. Nos enseña sobre la historia y la vida de los habitantes de la zona con exposiciones muy prolijas y detalladas.
The Nubia Museum is very interesting. It teaches us about the history and life of the inhabitants of the area with very lengthy and detailed halls
En la isla Elefantina, que se encuentra en frente de la ciudad podemos visitar templos nubios muy hermosos, unos de los más bellos del país

Se llega en pequeños barcos (hay que regatear mucho)

En las ruinas de ABU nos encontramos con un guía muy divertido, él te abre la cerca.

Me gustó mucho caminar por la aldea nubia que se llega cruzando el río. Con sus casas tradicionales y pequeños jardines.
I really enjoyed walking through the Nubian villages, just across the river. With its traditional houses and small gardens.
Hay un pequeño museo&bar donde podemos refrescarnos en la terraza tomando una bebida y disfrutando el hermoso paisaje del Nilo, además el dueño es muy dado a conversar con los extranjeros lo que hace la experiencia aún más interesante: ¡contacto directo con un nubio real!
There is a small museum & bar where you can fresh up on the terrace with a drink and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Nile, also the owner is very keen to talk with foreigners making the experience even more interesting: a direct chat with a real Nubian!
La gente de Asuán es muy simpática y amigable, pero eso los hace aún mejor comerciantes, es fácil olvidar que estamos en un país donde el regateo es bastante duro, especialmente con los turistas, entre tantas sonrisas y rostros amigables.
People of Aswan is very nice and friendly, but that makes them even better traders. It is easy to forget that we are in a country where haggling is pretty hard, especially with tourists, among many smiles and friendly faces.

Barrio Copto, el Cairo// Coptic Cairo
El Barrio Copto se encuentra en la parte antigua de la ciudad del Cairo, surcado por callejuelas, y en él se pueden encontrar muchas iglesias y ruinas con un gran valor histórico y religioso. Para visitar esta zona debemos vestir con recato (¡no a los shorts/bermudas/minifaldas ni a los hombros descubiertos!) y las mujeres debemos cubrir nuestro cabello con un pañuelo.
The Coptic Cairo is located in the old part of the city of Cairo, crossed by narrow streets, where we can find many churches and ruins with a great historical and religious value. To visit this area we should dress modestly (not shorts pants / mini-skirts or bare shoulders!) And women must cover the hair with a scarf.
Los coptos aparecieron con los primeros cristianos. Son la mayor comunidad cristiana en el Medio Oriente, así como la minoría religiosa más grande de la región, lo que representa alrededor del 10% de la población egipcia. En resumen, se denomina Coptos a los egipcios que profesan la fe cristiana.
The Copts appeared with the first Christians. They are the largest Christian community in the Middle East , as well as the largest religious minority in the region, representing about 10% of the Egyptian population. In summary, it is called Copts to the Egyptians who profess the Christian faith.
Visitar este barrio y sus iglesias es totalmente gratis, sólo se pide respeto al visitar sus lugares de oración y demás ruinas antiguas, es un lugar donde se respira mucha tranquilidad y meditación. No hay vendedores molestos ni nos sentimos observados como en los demás lugares de Egipto, los coptos son gente muy apacible.
To visit this neighbourhood and its churches is totally free, only respect for places of worship and other ancient ruins are asked, it is a place where we can feel tranquillity and meditation peace. There aren´t annoying vendors and nobody stare us as in the rest of places in Egypt, Copts are very peaceful people.
La manera más fácil de llegar es en metro, bajándose en la estación MAR GIRGIS que nos deja justo en frente (linea 1, color rojo)

Se cree que la cueva que se ubica debajo de la iglesia de San Sergio (Saint Sergius and Bacchus Church) cobijó a la Sagrada Familia en su paso por Egipto. Impresionante, ¿no?
It is believed that the cave that is located under the church of St. Sergius (Saint Sergius and Bacchus Church) sheltered the Holy Family on their way through Egypt. Impressive, isn´t it?
