La visitan 4 millones de turistas cada año, la mayoría en el verano europeo (Julio - Agosto) así que esa no sería la mejor época para ir, aunque es justo en la estación estival cuando tendremos la posibilidad de vivir algunas experiencias extraordinarias como por ejemplo ser espectadores de una liza de caballeros, torneo medieval donde los combatientes montados a caballo muestran su destreza y valentía al Rey y eventualmente a una bella damisela :) La entrada a la ciudad fortificada es gratuita pero estos espectáculos son de pago.
It is visited by 4 million tourists every year, mostly in the European summer (July-August) so that would not be the best time to go, although it is just in summer season when we have the opportunity to live some extraordinary experiences such as be spectators of a contest of knights, medieval tournament where fighters on horseback show their skill and courage to the King and eventually to a beautiful young lady :) The entrance to the fortified town is free but for these shows you must pay a ticket.
Dentro encontramos muchos restaurantes y tiendas de recuerdos (además del castillo y museos) lo que a mi gusto decepciona un poco, le da un aspecto muy artificial al ambiente :(

Se puede alquilar un traje medieval completo de muy buena hechura pero bastante caro por una hora. Otra vez será...je je (también puedes comprarlo si te lo quieres llevar a casa)
You can rent a full medieval costume very good made but expensive for an hour. Maybe next time ... hehe (you can also buy it if you would want to take it home)
Carcasona no se limita a la Cité (nombre que se le da a la ciudad fortificada) La más tranquila Ville Basse (ciudad baja) fundada en el siglo XIII también merece ser visitada además de que es una buena alternativa si se busca ofertas en alojamiento y restaurantes más económicos.
Carcassonne is not limited to the Cité (the name given to the fortified city) The quieter Ville Basse (lower town) founded in the thirteenth century also worth a visit plus it is a good alternative if you look for deals on lodging and cheaper restaurants.

Por último recomiendo sí o sí pasar al menos una noche dentro de la fortaleza o en la Ville Basse ya que la visita por el día es sólo la mitad de este viaje. La fortaleza es maravillosamente iluminada al anochecer, cuando la mayor parte de los turistas se retiran y podemos disfrutar tranquilamente al fin de sus antiguos muros:
Finally I recommend to spend at least one night in the walled city or out, in the Ville Basse because a one day visit is only half of this trip. The fort is beautifully illuminated at dusk, when most of the tourists are retired and we can peacefully enjoy, finally, with its ancient walls:
