Gerona or Girona (formerly Gerunda), historic city of the region of Catalonia, northeastern Spain, retains a beautiful old town dominated by medieval buildings with Roman reminiscences, Arabic and Hebrew, memories of its rich past. Visiting it takes no more than a day but worth staying at least one night for a chance to sip sangria at sunset in a very quiet and romantic. Although the origin of this drink is not very clear, it is considered traditional of Spain.

Como recuerdo de la ocupación islámica, junto a la Catedral se encuentran los baños árabes, los únicos baños públicos medievales descubiertos en toda España. La obsesión que tenían los musulmanes por los baños y el agua en esa época causó que los cristianos consideraran prácticamente un pecado bañarse. En la Edad Media los cristianos se bañaban solamente por prescripción médica en casos excepcionales :)

The obsession that the Muslims had with baths and water at that time caused that the Christians considered practically bathe a sin. In the Middle Ages Christians bathed/took shower by prescription only in exceptional cases :)

El Museo de Arte vale realmente la pena con sus 8500 piezas que van desde la Edad Media hasta el Modernismo representando especialmente a artistas locales. Son de una calidad excepcional.

La entrada a los museos y sitios arqueológicos de la ciudad cuesta aproximadamente 2 ó 3 euros, todos están muy bien organizados pero eso sí, los carteles informativos de la mayoría están solamente en el idioma catalán, algo recurrente en toda Cataluña :(

Llegar a Gerona es muy fácil ya que los trenes desde Barcelona parten cada una hora y no es necesario comprar el pasaje con antelación. También se puede llegar en autobús o avión.
Getting to Gerona is very easy as the trains from Barcelona depart every hour and is not need to buy the ticket in advance. It can also be reached by bus or plane.
